Voice over IP mobile device

VOIP mobile phoneNot sure that it’s something we will be going for immediately, but Netgear (a manufacturer of routers and modems) have released a WiFi mobile phone that allows the user to connect to Skype from any available wireless access point, without the need for a PC.

If everything we hear is true, it can save a lot of money even when connecting with ordinary phones, either locally or worldwide.

The disadvantages are that usage is limited to areas with wireless access, which makes the coverage somewhat limited. But it is certainly a forward step. It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers – especially the mainstream mobile phone companies – will be following suit.

Netgear are also well known for manufacturing internet routers and modems.
